The second annual SPUC conference was an exciting informative experience. This year, there were more than 125 participants from all over the United States and one member from the Virgin Islands. We heard excellent lectures during the leadership summit covering the challenges of opening a new UC site as well as mentoring and guiding your people. The regular session covered topics as diverse as emerging infections and how to talk to the cardiologist. Hands-on-sessions included sports medicine, dentistry, new gadgets apps for your electronic devices and novel approaches to pain relief.
For many members the opportunity to network was paramount and we all enjoyed telling each other how we do it at "our facility."
13 posters were presented, each one proudly explained by the entrants during a reception on Thursday evening. This year, the winning poster was presented by Jennifer Dilts, DO, from Kansas City Mercy hospital.
The excitement and energy were palpable as we continue to grow as a specialty and a special society.
Thank you to each and every participant and speaker. Special thanks to Carolyn Moffatt from Ruggles and Elissa Reed from CHOA for their indefatigable administrative support.
Many thanks to CHOA and Children's Mercy for their sponsorship and our meeting exhibitors that included Bionix Development Corporation, Clockwise MD, Nonin Medical, Inc., Practice Velocity and ScribeAmerica.
We are planning next year's gathering, we know it needs to be longer and we must plan for more people. Watch the website and list serve over the next few weeks for an announcement of dates and location.
